Ask a Stupid Question Day
It might sound like a silly theme to celebrate, but the origins of 'Ask a Stupid Question Day' are honourable.
Working Parents Day
Today we appreciate that being a working parent is tough and involves balancing a thousand little things with their commitment to their employer. Recognise and pay tribute to the employees in your organisation who are juggling it all and acknowledge that life is more difficult for them, with the extra energy that takes. You can support these employees by including their perspective in your company policies and procedures and even foster a community for them by facilitating a parents group at work where they can meet in a safe space to discuss the highs and lows and feel supported among like-minded colleagues with similar struggles.
R U OK? Day
The R U OK website has some amazing resources available for your workplace to encourage you to build a culture where everyone feels safe, supported and encouraged.
Positive Thinking Day
The objective? Bring a smile and spread positivity and happiness.
Swap Ideas Day
Your organisation can host a brainstorming session to encourage your employees to share and swap ideas. It could be to solve a recurring issue in the workplace, to develop a new product, or refresh an existing policy, strategy or campaign. Bring your team together to spark new ideas and inspiration.
Footy Colours Day
This month, thousands of Australians unite and wear their favourite football team's colours to help raise money for children living with cancer.
International Dog Day
Pets, especially dogs and cats, can reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, ease loneliness, encourage exercise and playfulness, and even improve your cardiovascular health. Ask your team members to share a picture of their four-legged family members on your organisation's intranet or social media.
Daffodil Day, Wear It Purple Day
Sadly, most Australians know someone who has been affected by cancer.
Daffodil Day is the time for us all to come together and show our support for the 150,000 Australians diagnosed with cancer each year. Brighten up the office today with some yellow balloons and plenty of daffodils.
Encourage your employees to post a yellow image today and tag #daffodilday to show their support, or even better, organise a collection and donate what you can to life-saving cancer research through the Cancer Council's Daffodil Day Appeal.
World Humanitarian Day
Today we remember humanitarian workers who have been killed or injured in their line of work and pay tribute to all the aid and health workers who provide essential services to protect those in need.
Left Hander's Day
Does your organisation create products that could do with a left-handed influence on design features? Today is the perfect day to raise this feedback and promote awareness that the left-handed in our society are constantly challenged in a right-handed world.
International Day of Friendship
Challenge your employees to practice one Random Act of Kindness on a stranger, or let their friends know how much they are appreciated with a card, message or phone call.
World Emoji Day
Challenge your employees with an emoji-only message or post and see who can understand you and respond the quickest.
Embrace Your Geekness Day
Do any of your employees consider themselves a modern-day geek? Celebrate them and let them stand loud and proud, showcasing their chosen passion, expertise and knowledge.
World Chocolate Day
The one day of the year you won't need to feel guilty about heading to the vending machine to buy your mid-afternoon chocolate pick-me-up!
National Workaholics Day
A gentle reminder that work-life balance is crucial for your employee's wellbeing.
NAIDOC Week
The struggles of our Elders help to move us forward today. The equality we continue to fight for is found in their fight. Their tenacity and strength has carried the survival of our people.
EOFY
For something a little different this year, why not plan something where your employees can let off some steam, like an amazing race in your local city, or an escape room experience with a reward for the winning team.
International Olympic Day
This Olympic Day let's inspire each other to move, one step at a time. #LETSMOVE
International Sushi Day & International Picnic Day
Celebrate International Sushi Day by shouting the team a sushi lunch, or if your colleagues like a bit of healthy rivalry, how about a sushi-making competition?
International Mens Health Week
International Men's Health Week was created to bring awareness to health issues predominantly affecting men. Men frequent their local GP less often than women, and unfortunately, this leads to a higher rate of men suffering from lifestyle-related health conditions compared to women.
Raising awareness of men's health issues hopes to give men the courage to speak up and take positive actions in their prevention, encouraging early detection and treatment.
You can help support this important cause by raising awareness inside the workplace. Offer men's health screenings for blood pressure, cholesterol or diabetes, by partnering with a local Health Service, or offer workshops with guest speakers and medical professionals throughout the week on topics like reducing stress, removing the stigma around mental health, quitting smoking or heart health.
Help raise the profile of this important initiative. #InternationalMensHealthWeek
World Environment Day
World Environment Day is celebrated annually on 5 June and encourages awareness and action for the protection of the environment.
World Bicycle Day
Good for you AND good for the planet! Encourage your employees to cycle to work or organise a lunchtime ride together.
